Determination of polychlorinated biphenyls in the marine sediments using gas chromatography

A method of isolation from marine sediments of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) for the analysis by gas chromatography with electron capture detection is presented. The method was tested on Baltic sediments from the Gulf of Gdańsk, using standard mixtures of 10 PCB congeners containing from 3 to 10 chlorine atoms in a molecule. Results are discussed regarding the available literature data.

Przedstawiono metodę izolacji z morskich osadów dennych polichlorowanych bifenyli (PCB) z użyciem chromatografii gazowej z detekcjq wychwytu elektronów. Metoda została przetestowana na osadach bałtyckich z Zatoki Gdańskiej, z użyciem mieszanin wzorców 10 kongenerów PCB zawierajqcych od 3 do 10 atomów chloru w czqsteczce. Wyniki przedyskutowano z uwzględnieniem dostępnych danych literaturowych.
