Hydrogen from bio-mass
It is well known that biomass can be a significant source of renewable energy even today. Hov mass as a source of hydrogen is much less in the public mind. The Staged Reforming, a process de DMT for the conversion of biomass and residues, might change this, offering a simple way to co masses and residues even of poor quality into a hydrogen rich (50% or more) product gas. Esser process is a two-stage allothermal steam gasification. At the first stage, the bio-mass is pyrolysed 550 °C resulting in separation of a volatile phase and a pyrolysis char. The volatile phase is treated endothermic reforming with steam at temperatures up to 950 °C. The required heat for the proa vided by combustion of the pyrolysis char and transferred to the process by a heat carrier circu paper, the principles of Staged Reforming are explained and a short description of the 1 MW test | experimental results are presented.
