W artykule omówiono podstawowe problemy polskiego budownictwa podziemnego w skałach zwięzłych oraz w skałach luźnych. Zwrócono uwagę na zagadnienia podziemnej infrastruktury sieciowej miast. W końcowej części pracy przedstawiono wybrane zagadnienia projektowania geotechnicznego w budownictwie podziemnym oraz relacje pomiędzy budownictwem podziemnym, geotechniką i geoinżynierią. Wskazano na perspektywy rozwoju budownictwa podziemnego w Polsce.
