Preparation of mineral adsorbents to remove benzene and phenol from aqueous solutions

Loamy minerals are significant but still insufficiently used natural resources in Poland. The growing consumption of oil-derivative products is a great menace to the quality of water. The modification method of mineral adsorbents preparation, based on twice treated raw basalt and its effect on structural and sorption properties, was elaborated. The best Da adsorbent had: surface area 252 mVg, total pore volume 0.75 cmVg and bulk density 0.43 g/cm3. The study of benzene sorption (static and dynamic methods) and phenol sorption (static method) from aqueous solutions was carried out on selected mineral adsorbents and active carbon. The benzene and phenol sorption on the prepared mineral adsorbents is high and comparable to commercial.
