An experimental study of mechanical properties of vehicular tire rubbers

The paper describes an experimental investigation of the mechanical properties of vehicular-tire rubbers. The original truck-tire as well as retreaded-tire rubbers is considered in the present investigation. In order to compare the results of the tire rubbers, the corresponding properties of commercially available natural rubber are investigated. In the present study, most of the useful mechanical properties, especially required for analyzing the stress problems related to vehicular-tires, are determined experimentally, and the results are discussed for comparison with the corresponding properties of natural rubber and also with the standard properties of elastomer available in the literature. Finally, an example of the effect of material properties on the deformation of a tire-tread section is demonstrated.
