Facades of modernized buildings - different strategies, different effects - case studies of selected public utility buildings

After certain time of buildings performance, the modernization of their facades is both a necessity and an opportunity for improving their quality, not only in terms of the external shell but also in many functional aspects. The scope of the paper is the discussion of different strategies of facades modernization, starting with popular thermal insulation of the external walls, through the exchange of glass curtain walls, new double-skin facades, to intelligent facades combined with the Building Management System, and facades equipped with photovoltaic systems that change the skin of buildings into energy generators.

Po pewnym okresie użytkowania modernizacja elewacji jest koniecznością, a zarazem okazją do podniesienia jakości nie tylko samej powłoki zewnętrznej, ale także wielu aspektów funkcjonowania całego budynku. Artykuł prezentuje różne strategie podejścia do procesu modernizacji fasad, od popularnego docieplania ścian zewnętrznych, poprzez wymianę szklanych ścian osłonowych, dobudowywanie podwójnych powłok, po fasady inteligentne, sprzężone z systemem BMS oraz elewacje wyposażone w systemy fotowoltaiczne, zamieniające skórę budynku w generator energii.
