The effect of polyalcohols on the properties of particleboards glued with phenolic-formaldehyde resin
The effect of phenolic resin modification on the properties of particleboards produced using such a modified resin was investigated using differing amounts of polyalcohols, such as: ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol and glycerol. It was found that the modification of phenolic resin with the applied alcohols results in improved physical and mechanical properties of the boards in proportion to the increasing length of carbon chain, as well as alcohol introduced to phenolic resin. The best results may be achieved using butylene glycol as a modifier.
