Przedsiębiorstwa posiadające system zapewniania jakości, wdrożony w oparciu o normy serii ISO 9000 z 1994 roku, do 2003 roku będą musiały dokonać jego aktualizacji zgodnie z wymaganiami norm ISO 9000:2000. W związku z tym tak wiele uwagi poświęca się nowym normom, ich zaletom, wadom, ale przede wszystkim zmianom, które z nimi się wiążą.
