Solving behavioural issues of composite joints by appropriate finite element modelling
This paper is dealt with the behaviour of structural composite elements using FEA (Finite Element Analysis). Different issues are discussed that are mainly concerned with modelling of the concrete material, steel reinforcement as well as the interaction between structural steel profile and reinforced concrete slab in composite elements. Shell elements are used for modelling of both the plate components of structural steel profile and the reinforced concrete slab. Selected aspects of mesh size for modelling of the behaviour of reinforced concrete slab and the behaviour of shear studs contributing to the achievement of a certain degree of composite action between the structural steel section and reinforced concrete slab are of particular importance in this study. The results are practically utilized in the simulation of the behaviour of steel-concrete composite joints investigated experimentally at the Warsaw University of Technology.
