The mathematical model of the thermal dissociation of the spherical limestone grain, with regard to shrinkage, is described in this paper. The results of the model calculation and the experiment show, that the values of calcination rates, calculated using the model regarding shrinkage of spheres prepared using the chosen limestones, are close to the values experimentally determined. The results of the model calculation and the experiment show that the values of calcination rates, calculated using the model without the shrinkage of spheres prepared using the chosen limestones, are close to the values experimentally determined, as well. Shrinkage has an important impact on the model calculation results. Therefore, the mathematical model making allowances for shrinkage should be applied in the calculation of the limestones’ thermal decomposition. The results of the experiment and the model calculation show the dependence of the calcination rate upon the kind of limestone. There is lack of simple dependence of the calcined limestone sample volume shrinkage upon shrinkage of the sample linear sizes. It is caused by the distortion of the geometry of the sample.
