Application of ion exchange technique in utilization of waste material
In order to recover phosphates and polyvalent metals, a method for utilization of waste material produced during manufacturing of sodium tripolyphosphate has been elaborated. The conditions of i) ion exchange process on a strongly acidic cation-exchanging material (Wofatyt KPS in hydrogen form), ii) ion exchanger regeneration, and iii) calcium phosphates and hydrated metals oxides precipitation from appropriate solutions, have been described. It has been found that efficiencies of both ion exchange process and regeneration of ion exchanging material were 37 - 100% and 85 - 100%, respectively. In the range of pH 6 - 11.5 calcium phosphates were precipitated in 97 - 100%. The most efficient precipitation of metals in a form of hydrated oxides occurred at pH 8-9.
