The article presents crisis situation in a shipbuilding sector and the ways of defeating this. Some hidden possibilities of Polish shipbuilding industry, after implementation of particular instruments, allow Polish shipbuilders a fair competition on a common European market. European Union activities leading to improvement in competitiveness of European Yards versus Yards from the rest of the world, keeping fair play rules, are being compared as well.
