Sprawnie zorganizowany transport jest istotnym czynnikiem wpływającym na funkcjonowanie poszczególnych działów gospodarki i nabiera szczególnego znaczenia w dobie integracji regionów, stanowiąc element procesu intensyfikacji rozwoju gospodarki turystycznej. O jego poziomie rozstrzyga w głównej mierze położenie geograficzne regionu oraz wyposażenie w składniki infrastruktury transportowej. Istotnym czynnikiem jest oddalenie regionów peryferyjnych od centrów gospodarczych i utrudniony dostęp komunikacyjny do rynków, powodujący niekorzystne konsekwencje w postaci wolniejszego rozwoju turystyki i gospodarki oraz mniejszą konkurencyjność. W artykule zaprezentowano zagadnienia związane z wpływem inauguracji działalności przewoźników niskoksztowych na rozwój obszarów peryferyjnych, konkurencyjność lotnisk regionalnych oraz efekty ekonomiczne działalności portów lotniczych i ich wpływ na gospodarkę turystyczną. Z przeprowdzonej analizy wynika, że działalność turystyczna jest ściśle związana z rozwojem transportu lotniczego.

Well-organized transport is an important factor that affects the functioning of the various sectors of the economy and has a particular importance in the area of regional integration, as a part of the process of intensifying the development of tourism. It’s level is strongly determined by the geographical location of the region and by transport infrastructures. An important factor is distance between the outermost regions that are attractive as tourist destinations and economic centers that make up transport markets. A poorly developed transport network is another factor, making market access difficult and resulting in an impediment for economic growth, market competition and ultimately the development of tourism. This article presents issues related to the influence of the inauguration of the low-cost carriers on the development of peripheral areas, the competitiveness of regional airports and the economic impact of airports and their influence on the economy of tourism. The performed analysis shows that tourism activity is closely related to the development of air transport.
