Autor przedstawia nowatorskie rozwiązania materiałowe i konstrukcyjne w mostownictwie na przełomie ostatnich lat. Niekonwencjonalne materiały konstrukcyjne przedstawiono na przykładzie betonów nowych generacji. Indywidualizację form architektonicznych omówiono na przykładzie zrealizowanych w ostatnich latach obiektów o różnej skali. Poruszając wszystkie zagadnienia dążono do porównania osiągnięć światowych z sytuacją krajowego mostownictwa i prognozą jego rozwoju.

Modern material and structural solutions are presented based on three fundamental trends observed during the recent years in bridge engineering, namely - growth of the limit span lengths, applications of the non-conventional materials of new generation, and shaping of the bridges with highly original architectural forms. The use of non-conventional materials is exemplified mainly by bridge applications of normal density high performance concrete (HPC) and lightweight high performance concrete (LHPC). Implementation of the new materials to the bridge engineering is characterized as a major factor of its development. Shaping of the bridge structures with highly individual architectural forms is exemplified by the structures of different scale erected during the recent years. All the problems are presented taking into account the world achievements and comparing them with the situations of the Polish bridge engineering and the predicted fields of its development.
