A great number of built or planned transport tunnels in Europe is a response to the increasingly intensive urbanisation of cities. Two new tunnel passes below the Vistula river in Warsaw are the sign of the times: one for the 2nd underground line and one to transport sewage to the "Czajka" treatment plant. We can not however get a 100 % tight tunnel. Both the contractor and, later, the operator must ensure that the number of leaks is under full control. The intensity of such leaks is influenced primarily by the type of the subsoil, the type and condition of the structure and the diligence of its construction. Leak testing is designed to limit the deterioration of the structure by the negative effects of water. In case of a decision to tighten the construction at a given location, the technology of such repair has to be chosen.
