Celem artykułu jest próba udowodnienia, że transport drogą kolejową ładunków ponadgabarytowych w Polsce ma dużą przyszłość, pomimo że w obecnej chwili napotyka wiele trudności, przez co jest stosunkowo mało konkurencyjny do innych środków i gałęzi przewozu. Dodatkowym celem jest wyjaśnienie, czym jest ładunek nadzwyczajny w transporcie kolejowym, jakie wiążą się z nim aspekty prawne i ekonomiczne oraz jakie stawiane są wymogi i warunki techniczne, które muszą być spełnione dla bezpieczeństwa przewozu.

The main purpose of the article is an attempt to prove that rail transport of oversized cargo in Poland has the great future in spite of in the present moment is coming across a lot of difficulty what he is causing that he is relatively not very rival with respect to different modes and the branch of the transport. An additional purpose is explaining what is the extraordinary (oversized) cargo in the rail transport and what legal and economic aspects are involving with it and what requirements and technical conditions should be fulfilled for the safety of the transport.
