In this paper the method of management of design process based on agent system is presented. The design process encompasses various activities and is divided into phases, stages and steps, which can be executed simultaneously by various designers and is characterized by sequence-and-parallel iterative arrangement of activities. Activities conducted during the designing are not ambiguously defined, what causes that activity plan during design process has to be adjusted to actual situation. The current tendencies towards globalization and virtualization of organization contribute to the situation that often the designers who are employed for conducting the design tasks are not physically located in one room or even company. This influences on distribution of design tasks and enforces ensuring of efficient communication method within the design team. The usage of distributed artificial intelligence method based on agent system for management of design process enabled receiving of information about the state, in which the distributed resources (tasks and designers) are and their coordination. The system was created based on Reusable Environment for Task-Structured Intelligent Networked Agents (RETSINA). The special procedures of communication were drawn up for ensuring of correct cooperation between agents. Programmed agents in the management of design process system perform their tasks based on defined algorithms. The algorithms that enable making of plans, schedules and correct supervision the design works were drew up.
