Efficiency of the strengthening for shear using CFRP materia1s is strongly influenced by the way of CFRP rnaterials application on the beam surfaces. The research programs on RC elements strengthened with CFRP materials proved that the main reason of failure is debonding of the composite. The tests of the beams shows that the direction of the composite fibres influences the capacity of strengthened beams. In case, where material cannot be applied on all surfaces, the proper anchorage of the composite stirrups plays significant role. The tests proved that the large transverse stiffness of the CFRP stirrups accelerate the process of the debonding. It seems that the best way to eliminate the debonding, is application ofthe composite materia1s internally.
