Hierarchical hypergraph transformations in engineering design

A new approach to a design process, which uses hierarchical hypergraph representations of object structures, is described. The representations are generated and modified by hypergraph operations discussed here. Hierarchical hypergraph grammars, which govern the composition of elements into objects, are also proposed. The usefulness of hypergraph transformations in a design of objects, whose structures are represented by hypergraphs, is illustrated on examples of composing electrical circuits.
