What is going on with the Alcapa at the moment?

The Alpine-Carpathian-Pannonian unit (ALCAPA) plays a key role in the neotectonics of Central Europe. The formation and evolution of the Pannonian basin, Carpathians and the Eastern AIps are all in connection with the past and present geodynamics of the ALCAPA unit. During this decade based on the work of many geoscientists the milestones of the Neogene evolution of the unit became known. This paper intends to outline the present-day geodynamics of the ALCAPA unit using the four epoch GPS data set of the Central European GPS Geodynamic Reference Network (CEGRN) and the GPS data of the Hungarian GPS Geodynamic Reference Network (HGRN). I determined the strain distribution, crustal velocities from the GPS data within and around the ALCAPA unit. This paper makes an attempt to jointly analyse the strain rates, crustal velocities, stress and seismicity data and suggest a model for the present geodynamics of this structural unit. This paper would like to point out the uncertainties and the remaining questions as well that will probably be answered in the future as the time span of the GPS data grows.
