The paper presents an outline of the history of a particular part of electromagnetic field theory which is electrostatic. It has its roots in ancient Greece and it may be even in the more distant past. The personalities have been presented who according to the Author made the greatest contribution to the development of this field of knowledge. Among them are philosophers, physicists, engineers, doctors, mathematicians, professors, inventors and people of other professions whose lives were connected with this fascinating branch of science.
