„Z pożogi i ognia”. Początki Katedry Szkła na Akademii Sztuk Pięknych we Wrocławiu

Polskie szkło artystyczne i użytkowe jest powoli odkrywaną dziedziną w historii rodzimego designu. Zdobywa ono coraz większą popularność, a nazwiska projektantów szkła zaliczanych do „Wrocławskiej Szkoły Szkła” zyskują miano ikon wzornictwa. Ta rzadka specjalizacja jednoznacznie kojarzy się z Dolnym Śląskiem, gdzie w stolicy regionu – Wrocławiu, tuż po II wojnie światowej powstała unikatowa w skali kraju Katedra Szkła na Wydziale Ceramiki i Szkła Akademii Sztuk Pięknych. Postaciami kluczowymi dla stworzenia środowiska wrocławskich artystów szkła był Eugeniusz Geppert – założyciel Akademii i Stanisław Dawski – inicjator i opiekun Katedry Szkła w pierwszych latach jej istnienia. Dzięki ich staraniom, do dziś kształci się na jedynym w kraju Wydziale Szkła i Ceramiki projektantów i artystów szkła, a polska sztuka i wzornictwo wyróżnia się niepowtarzalną grupą twórców skoncentrowanych na tej unikatowej materii.

Polish artistic and utility glass is a slowly discovered field in the history of domestic design. It is gaining in popularity and the names of glass designers included in the so-called "Wrocław School of Glass" are becoming icons of design. This rare specialization is clearly associated with Lower Silesia, where in the capital of the region - Wrocław, just after World War II, a unique Department of Glass was established at the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass of the Academy of Fine Arts. The key figures in creating the community of Wrocław glass artists were Eugeniusz Geppert, the founder of the Academy and Stanisław Dawski, the initiator and guardian of the Department of Glass. Thanks to their efforts, glass designers and artists are still educated at the only Faculty of Glass and Ceramics in the country, and Polish art and design is distinguished by a unique group of creators focused on the glass material.
