W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań eksploatacyjnych silników o zapłonie samoczynnym. W badaniach zwrócono uwagę na zagadnienie zmiany stanu niezawodnościowego obiektu technicznego - pojazdu w aspekcie osiągnięcia wartości dopuszczalnej parametru stanu, w zakresie zadymienia spalin i zużycia układu tłok-pierścienie tłokowe-cylinder.
