Możliwości odbudowy zasobów wodnych w rejonie odkrywek węgla brunatnego Jóźwin IIB i Kazimierz Północ
Water loss in the brown coal mining area in the western part of the Konin Lignite Basin is a problem that has been observed for many years. It is most visible in the area located north-west of the Jóźwin IIB and Kazimierz Północ opencast lignite mines, where the lake ’s water level has decreased by up to 6 m. The factors influencing the decline in the water level in the lakes include climate change and human activity, including mining drainage. Due to the current situation, the ongoing recultivation of the Kazimierz Północ opencast lignite mine and the planned end of operation of the Jóźwin IIB opencast lignite mine in 2023, the Regional Water Management Board in Poznaň has developed a concept for accelerating the process of flooding three mine workings and restoring the channels discharging mine water. This plan also assumes the restoration of water conditions in the area of opencast lignite mines and lakes and rivers within the impact of the depression cone associated with them, especially in the catchment area of the Ostrowo-Gopło Canal and Lake Powidzkie. The concept, which has already been partially implemented, includes:1) reconstruction of the existing drainage system of the Jóźwin IIB opencast lignite mine and redirection of water from deep drainage to the final excavation left after the Kazimierz Północ opencast lignite mine (completed in 2020); 2) reconstruction of the drainage system of the Jóźwin IIB opencast lignite mine and redirection of water from deep drainage to the final excavation left after the Jóźwin IIB opencast lignite mine (completed in June 2024); 3) supplying water from Lake Gosławskie or Lake Pątnowskie using the Central Pumping Station of the Pątnów Power Plant to the final reservoir left after the Kazimierz Północ open-pit mine and further through the Roztoka reservoir to the final reservoir left after the Jóźwin IIB opencast lignite mine, using the resources of the Ślesiński Canal (in the design phase, planned implementation in 2025/2026). Thanks to the solutions used, the final excavation left after the Kazimierz Północ opencast lignite mine was flooded in 2023, and not in 2030 as expected. The implementation of further plans will allow us to accelerate the process of filling the Roztoka reservoir and the excavation left after the Jóźwin IIB opencast lignite mine and to rebuild water conditions in their surroundings, especially in the area of Powidzki Landscape Park. The work aims to present the stages of flooding the post-mining excavation reservoirs of the Kazimierz Północ and Jóźwin IIB opencast lignite mines, indicate the factors determining this process, and describe solutions that accelerate it while assessing the effects of the actions taken on the natural environment.
