Wybrane zagadnienia przeciwdziałania terroryzmowi powietrznemu w Polsce

Highjacking aircraft used to be a popular method of acts of terrorism. Using airplanes as gigantic bullets took place in the USA on 11th September 2001. After that event numerous initiatives have been taken in order to prevent such attacks in the future, as well as proper response in case of their appearance. Aircraft that may be used as a terrorist attack from air is called RENEGADE. NATO members developed special strategy of operation referring to this type of threats. Poland, as a UN and NATO member, as well as the first EU country on the Eastern Wall, created its own threat response subsystem of RENEGADE, synchronised with domestic air defence system. Moreover, the Ministry of National Defence actively participates in the Cooperative Airspace Initiative (CAI), undertaken within the framework of NATO – Russia Council. It concerns the cooperation to use airspace and air traffic management. A special inter-ministry team was established whose task is to, among others, prepare projects of organisational solutions and legal regulations as it is perceived by both sides not only as a tool to fight air terrorism but also as a means to build mutual trust.
