Z najnowszego raportu Europejskiej Agencji Środowiska (EEA) z 2014 r. wynika, że większość mieszkańców europejskich miast jest narażona na zanieczyszczenie powietrza przekraczające dopuszczalną normę. Spośród wielu rodzajów zanieczyszczeń tego elementu przyrody bardzo duży problem stanowi pył zawieszony PM10.

Paniculate matters are the top environmental risk factor of premature death in this continent. This dust increases the incidence of a wide range of diseases and has several environmental impacts, damaging vegetation and ecosystems. Poland has been occupying an infamous leading place in the European Union in terms of the most polluted air.
