Funkcja profesora tytularnego w państwowych szkołach akademickich II Rzeczypospolitej

The purpose of this article is to present the institution and formal conditions of functioning of titular professor in the state academic education of the 2nd Polish Republic. The work is source-based and generally contains an analysis of state legal acts of the years 1920 1939, complemented in some cases with other types of sources. The article is divided into six chapters. At the beginning the essence of titular professorship in the 2nd Polish Republic is discussed and its specific aspects are indicated. Legal bases of the functioning of academic schools is presented and the system of state academic education is shortly discussed. Next, the necessary qualifications of candidates for titular professor are considered. The entirety of qualification procedure is analysed and the characteristics of its stages and bodies is included - first of all a faculty board as the only institution entitled to make a motion regarding nomination for professor. The procedure of approval of the motion within the academy and on the state level is also presented; the approval was made by the Minister of Religious Faith and Public Enlightenment. Further, it is discussed what were the rights and obligations resulting from enjoying the status of titular professor and what were the connections between the titular professor and different spheres of academy's life. As a conclusion, the whole problem is summed up and a hypothesis is made regarding the reasons of introduction of titular professorship in inter-war Poland.
