ARNO SCHMIDT LEFRANÇOIS OVVERO AS VERFRAANST. EIN AVANTGARDESCHRIFTSTELLER THEORETISCH, PRAKTISCH UND DIDAKTISCH BELEUCHTET
The Silesian author Arno Schmidt is not only widely translated into English, but also into French. This language, particularly, would seem to be a specially good occasion to stage Schmidt’s tongue-in-cheek experimental use of spoken German, so characteristic of his – early – style. His approach – and its outcome when verfraanst – is what this paper is about, using our long standing experience with his texts in teaching units centred on orality and scripturality. Schmidt’s „technical“ approach to language facilitates a „linguistic grasp“ of this material; a further boon when working with his texts are the available audio recordings by different speakers, allowing thus to double-check „orality’s orality“.
