ŤAŽENIE ALBRECHTA I. HABSBURSKÉHO DO PORÝNIA V ROKU 1298
This paper primarily examines the campaign of Austrian Duke Albrecht I Habsburg against German King Adolf of Nassau in 1298. This confrontation occurred after several years of King Adolf’s reign, during which his power politics provoked substantial opposition from the empire’s elites, led by Archbishop Gerhard II of Mainz and King Wenceslaus II of Bohemia, with King Andrew III of Hungary counted among the allies. The Habsburg army’s Rhine campaign represents a fascinating example of political-military manoeuvring that exceeded most military operations of the period in scope. Most importantly, this campaign culminated in the decisive Battle of Göllheim, which triggered a fundamental shift in imperial power dynamics and marked the Habsburgs’ return to the throne.
