Alternative methods of ensuring welfare in old age is one of so called ‘frequently asked questions’. Many people are interested in this topic and there are also many different opinions, ‘guaranteed’ recommendations as well as many myths or misinterpretations within the society. The article presents the summary of mostly mentioned methods (complementary pension savings, creation of savings, building savings, insurance products, immovable property for one’s own residence, investment in children) and gives a brief evaluating commentary to each of them (advantages, disadvantages) coming from the author’s experience gained during his activity within the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
