THE FORMING MODEL OF THE KERTCH TYPE FINGER-SHAPED FIBULA

In the Kraków Archaeological Museum there is very interesting find of a forming model used for production the finger-shaped fibulas known in literature as the Kertch type. The Kertch type fibulas are known from Eastern Europe especially in Crimea. Two similar finds in Dnepr River region have been found. Their chronology covers the period from the end of 5th C. till the first half of the 6th C. with the upper limit of appearance at the second half of 7th C. The forming model from Kraków Museum is the first example of the tool used in the production of the Kertch brooches. Analogical forming models are known from Central and Eastern Europe. In the article this model with the fibulas from The State Hermitage Museum in Sankt Petersburg was analyzed. Presented model is very important to reconstruct the technological aspect of the precious metal production in Eastern Europe.
