Doświadczenia szkolne osób starszych oraz współczesnej młodzieży – próba porównania

In this article, the author presents the results of the research, which aims to compare school experiences of the elderly and the youth of today. The research material was obtained by the biographical method with the use of in-depth interview. This article presents an overview of the literature on school and memories associated with it. The results refer to the memories of teachers, classmates and colleagues, atmosphere, objects and school events, as well as self-assessment as a student. The seniors also presented their own demands related to contemporary education. Older people recall their school times with gratitude and enthusiasm. Stories of celebrations, teachers, and peers were accompanied by positive feelings. Today's youth appear to be less emotional when describing their school experiences. They tend to use education as a tool to find a satisfactory job and improve their social status. The author points out that the mutual sharing of school memories unites generations. A recurrence of the school theme in intergenerational conversations can become an inspiration and be beneficial in aspiring to positive changes. It is important that events, objects and occurrences stored in memory are saved from oblivion.
