Польские банкиры и петербургские банки (середина xix – начало хх в.)

This article investigates the impact of Polish bankers on the formation of St. Petersburg joint-stock banks and development of the banking system of the Russian Empire. Petersburg's commercial banks, which were using the experience of Jewish, Polish and Baltic bankers, were initially only modest intermediaries in the payments, but after some time they became an important part of the whole monetary and credit system, which greatly impacted the economic development of the country. At the end of the XIX century, with the industrial development of the country, accumulation of the business experience, expansion of the banking, and strengthening of the ties with the foreign banks, the europeanization of the Russian banking system was taking place. It became universal throughout the country, including the outskirts of the empire. The Polish bankers were gradually losing old priorities and became attached to the all-Russian credit and banking system.
