The Warsaw school of paper conservation

The paper presents the history and development of conservation of books, graphics and paper objects in Warsaw Poland, both in practical approach as well as in the process of teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts. The theoretical assumptions are followed by a review of chemical methods used today, but also abandoned ones. There were two turning points in the history of conservation in Warsaw: beginning co-operation with professional chemists at the Academy and developing the system of microbiological controls at the National Library.
