La Monja de Lisboa en un manuscrito anónimo de la “colección berlinesa” depositada en la Biblioteca Jaguelónica de Cracovia
The article refers to the figure of the Portuguese nun María de la Visitación (1551-ca.1603), who has become renown among her contemporaries thanks to the pseudo-mystical experiences. In addition to the religious dimension, the story of the nun corresponds with the climate of political tension between Spain and Portugal at the beginning of the Iberian Union (1580-1640), when both neighbouring kingdoms were joined under the rule of the Spanish monarch, Philip II. The article is based on the anonymous Spanish manuscript belonging to the “Berlin Collection” which comes from the former Prussian State Library in Berlin (Preussische Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin), and is currently stored in the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow.
