Sociologické a pedagogické aspekty uvádzania študentov do vysokoškolského štúdia

The findings of a sociological research of university students in Slovakia show that a substantial majority chose to study of their own free will. Instrumentally, they see studying as a tool for acquiring an interesting profession with a good salary and good social conditions. A half of students enter university with adequate expectations of the difficulty of the study programme. Neverthless a great proportion of students consider their university course more demanding than they had expected, the problems concentrating in the first year of the study programme. Students also claim that they did not have a chance of presonal contact with their teacher even though it was needed. There is a disagreement between students’ expectations and the reality of work organisation in the first year of university study. There is a lack of university study propedeutics (introduction into studying university).
