U źródeł ochrony zabytków: rozwój systemowego konserwatorstwa w Niemczech w początkach XIX w.

The turn of 19th and 20th century in German countries marks a period of increasing awareness of the need of protection of the past material heritage. It is also a period of undertaking more and more numerous rescue and restoration works, of preparation of principles for related research and records, and creation of law regulations with an aim of supporting and guaranteeing protection and preservation of valuable tokens of the past, both architecture works, as well as movable monuments. An important role in this process was played by the memorial prepared in 1815 by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, “For Preservation of all Monuments and Relics of the Past of our Country”, and development of Prussian legislation in the scope of monument protection in first decades of 19th century. In the article, the development of systemic restoration in Germany was outlined (with special attention put on the situation in the Kingdom of Prussia), the contents of the Schinkel’s memorial, and more important legal acts in the scope of monument protection in the period from the decline of 18th century until the establishment of Prussian Monument Restoration Authority in 1843.
