CARARE CONNECTING ARCHAEOLOGY AND ARCHITECTURE IN EUROPEANA
The participation of the National Heritage Board of Poland in the CARARE project is a response to a question posed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage concerning the part performed by Polish institutions in European initiatives co-financed by the European Union funds, and associated with the digitalisation and dissemination of knowledge about the European cultural heritage on the Europeana portal (www. europeana. eu). The innovative CARARE project focuses on the architectural and archaeological heritage and its task consists of devising methods for the inclusion into Europeana of 3D/VR objects and links with GIS. This is the reason why CARARE – a Best Practice Network project – comprises a new value in Europeana, up to now dominated by library resources. The realisation of CARARE began in February 2010 and will be completed in January 2013. Within its framework the Europeana portal will be enhanced by assorted multimedia contents connected with archaeology and architecture. Another key objective is to supply instruments guaranteeing correct functioning both in the course of expansion and in the future. The project coordinator is Kulturarvsstyrelsen (Heritage Agency of Denmark) and MDR Partners from the United Kingdom. The consortium is composed of 29 institutions from twenty European countries, including the National Heritage Board of Poland.
