This article is an attempt to draw readers’ attention on the role of borrowings from Roman languages in teaching Polish as a foreign language. Those borrowings are a large, but still underestimated group in lexical supply of Polish. Author has shown the results of her research concerning ability to recognize Roman borrowings among people learning Polish as a foreign language at basic level and her conclusions made from the research.
