LIBRARY INSTRUCTION: FROM TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS TO E-LEARNING. (Przysposobienie biblioteczne: od tradycyjnych metod nauczania po e-learning)

The article is to present the library instruction courses addressed to first year students and delivered by academic libraries, with particular attention drawn to e-learning tools and methods. The authoress begins with the discussion of contemporary educational tasks of academic libraries and lists most recent legislative acts which define the educational role of the libraries in question. Next, the library instruction courses from past to present are presented, with particular emphasis on the introduction of Internet to the libraries. The definition of e-learning serves as a starting point for the discussion of most recent trends in knowledge sharing and basic change in the model of teaching resulting from the use of online teaching methods. Then, the results of the phone survey on e-learning in library instruction are presented. The survey involved 59 libraries of public universities. The results of the survey show, among other things, that e-learning gains increasing number of proponents as a teaching method, although it does not fully satisfy the expectations of academic librarians. In authoress' opinion the blended learning method is the most suitable solution for library instruction.
