Importance of neuropsychological assessment in diagnostics of learning disabilities and behavioral disorders

In addition to measurement of intelligence, precise determination of the nature of deficits in information processing is of crucial importance in diagnostics of learning disabilities and behavioral disorders at school age. For this purpose, neuropsychological measures can be efficiently used. By the results of our research related to ADHD, we demonstrate that deficits in visuo-spatial information processing may be one of the causes of problem behavior in schoolchildren. Unlike disrupted verbal processing, disrupted visuo-spatial processing frequently stays hidden from the environment, thus present methods of fostering intellectual development are less likely to be helpful to these children.
