The article present a brief description of the development and activities of the Faculty of Economic Policy at the Department of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łódź. It reculls the condition of its establishment as well as numerous changes to its name which were brought about by political and socio-economic developments. Earliest years outline national plans for the economic development. Later years set out to describe decentralization and democratic changes in new conditions. The author highlights major scientific trends and participation in regional research. Major emphasis in the article was placed on such problems as employment, labor market, unemployment, education, qualifications, women’s labor, etc. The mentioned researches earned a high profile in many rankings in the above areas and allowed to create a team of highly esteemed specialists. The author also presented the best known names closely linked with the Faculty over the years.
