Odczytując Nowy Testament z Davidem H. Sternem i Aleksandrą Czwojdrak
The article discusses the translation of the New Testament with commentary, made by a Messianic Jew David H. Stern and Polish translator Aleksandra Czwojdrak. It shows the way of affecting the reader, the operations that give a Jewish perspective to the biblical text and the very process of reading. The author of the article reads the Jewish New Testament from the point of view of Christianity, which tries to understand the distinctiveness of Jews. Presents the problems selected from the text and commentary: lexis abundantly drawn from Hebrew and Yiddish, syntactical semitisms, text structures – as formulas, a reconstructed wordplay obliterated in Greek, linguistic etiquette, not omitting general statements about the Semitic features of the biblical language/text. The stylistic diversity of the commentary has been signaled.
