Translating the Sacraments of Christian Initiation: A Linguistic and Cultural Analysis in the Tagalog Context
The linguistic analysis shows how Christian concepts are deeply rooted in the Tagalog language, with the sacraments of Confirmation, Baptism, and the Eucharist holding significant theological and cultural meaning in the Philippines. Despite the growing influence of English due to globalization, traditional terms like Kumpil, Binyag, and Eukaristiya remain relevant, especially in liturgy and catechesis. These terms not only express Christian doctrine but also reflect Filipino family and community values. The preservation of these terms is crucial to safeguarding the countryʼs religious and cultural identity, which continues to keep its spiritual heritage alive despite external influences.
