Artykuł opisuje rodzaje transportu szynowego w obsłudze miast, a także aglomeracji. Na początku przedstawione są różne definicje zarówno z literatury, jak i własne określające poszczególne systemy transportu szynowego w miastach. W kolejnych rozdziałach jest opisywane funkcjonowanie miejskiego transportu szynowego w Wiedniu i Frankfurcie nad Menem. Na końcu największy fragment dotyczy analizy stanu obecnego transportu szynowego w Krakowie i perspektywom jego rozwoju z uwzględnieniem podziemnej komunikacji szynowej.

This article describes the different types of rail transport in serving cities, as well as agglomerations. At the beginning, definitions, both from the literature and the author’s own definitions defining the different rail transport systems in cities are presented. In the following sections, the operation of urban rail transport in Vienna and Frankfurt am Main is described. In the final section, the largest passage deals with an analysis of the current state of rail transport in Kraków and prospects for its development, including underground rail transport.
