Oral history as a research practice and its potential for supporting the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage
Since the provisions of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) began to be implemented in individual countries around the world, including Poland, various initiatives undertaken by researchers and local communities have been observed, the aim of which are to document and disseminate ICH. One of the research methods that can influence participatory actions and the empowerment of bearers is oral history. The potential of the biographical perspective allows the construction of knowledge about ICH in an intergenerational way, which can lead to understanding, valuing, caring for, protecting and enjoying heritage.
