Celem rozważań jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie: czy współczesna jakość i poziom charakterystyk gmin Lądek Zdrój i Stronie Śląskie kwalifikuje teren jako obszar marginalny, czy może już jako peryferyjny. Gdy dystans jest niewielki, a efektem są wyraźne deformacje, to terytorium posiada cechy obszaru marginalnego. Jeśli wielość, istotność i różnorodność problemów powoduje zwiększenie dystansu, gdy następuje odizolowanie czy odseparowanie, gdy występują formy patologiczne, a efektem są postacie zdegradowane, to osiągany jest już poziom obszaru peryferyjnego.
