Azerbejdżańska Biblioteka Narodowa im. Mirzy Fatalego Achundowa w Baku

Artykuł prezentuje historię i współczesną działalność Azerbejdżańskiej Biblioteki Narodowej w Baku, stolicy Azerbejdżanu. Instytucja ta, pełniąc funkcje typowe dla bibliotek narodowych, jednocześnie wraz z Muzeum Literatury im. Nizamiego w Baku stanowi jedną z ważniejszych instytucji naukowych i badawczych w Azerbejdżanie i Kaukazie. Biblioteka gromadzi, zabezpiecza, konserwuje i udostępnia zbiory książek, prasy, druków ulotnych, muzycznych, kartograficznych, rękopisów. Posiada cenne zbiory prasy azerbejdżańskiej sprzed 1920 roku. Mieści się w budynku będącym jednym z architektonicznych symboli Baku. Jest jedną z prężniej działających bibliotek narodowych w krajach byłego Związku Radzieckiego. Artykuł prezentuje sylwetkę patrona biblioteki. Przedstawia jej historię zarówno jako instytucji, jak i budynku o istotnym znaczeniu dla historii sztuki Azerbejdżanu.

This article presents the history and current activities of the Azerbaijan National Library in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. This institution performs functions typical of national libraries, while at the same time constituting, along with the Nizami Literature Museum in Baku, one of the most important academic and research institutions in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region. The library collects, preserves, maintains, and makes available collections of books, newspapers, ephemera, music, maps, and manuscripts. It has a valuable collection of Azerbaijani press before 1920. Its building is one of the architectural symbols of Baku. It is one of most dynamical national libraries in the countries of the former Soviet Union. The article presents a profile of the library's patron as well as its history both as an institution and as a building of great significance to the art history of Azerbaijan.
