W artykule podjęto refleksję nad specyfiką narracji drugoosobowej w autobiografii na przykładzie twórczości Paula Austera, szczególnie wydanej w 2013 roku książki Report from the Interior. Analiza utworu koncentruje się na funkcji zastąpienia „ja” przez „ty”, które komplikuje kwestię tożsamości podmiotu, a przede wszystkim sprawia, że tekst autobiograficzny staje się wypowiedzią teoretyczną na temat konwencji autobiografii. Wybór narracji drugoosobowej w literaturze dokumentu osobistego postrzegać więc można jako gest implicytnie autotematyczny.

The article tackles the problem of second person autobiographical narrative, focusing on Paul Auster’s prose, especially on his 2013 book Report from the Interior. The analysisconcentrates on the function of replacing the “I” with the “you”, which complicates the issue of the subject’s identity, but first and foremost makes the autobiographical text a theoretical statement on the genre’s convention. The choice of the second person in autobiographical writing can be therefore interpreted as a implicitly autothematic gesture.
