Слитные чтения и родственные им текстовые явления в руськомовных переводах Żywotów Świętych Петра Скарги (на примере житий свв. Пелагии Тарсийской, Афанасия Великого, Прокопия Кесарийского)
The article analyses the conflate readings (conflatio) of the Ruthenian manuscript Lives of St Pelagia of Tarsus, St Athanasius of Alexandria, and St Procopius of Scythopolis, translated from the Polish early printed edition of Żywoty Świętych by Piotr Skarga. This information helps identify manuscript copies that have undergone secondary editing against additional Ruthenian or Old Church Slavonic versions of the text.
The conflate readings of the three hagiographies can be classified into two groups: 1) those formed under the influence of additional textual versions; 2) those resulted from the scribe’s own initiative. In some cases, conflate readings of the first type stem from certain archetypes of the extant copies.
Conflate readings in the Life of St Pelagia of Tarsus are contained in the common archetype of the manuscript copies of F.I.307 and Пог. 818. In the Life of Athanasius of Alexandria, conflate reading are presented is the archetype of the manuscript copies of Шепт. 31 and НТШ 322 (the first translation), as well as in the individual manuscripts of Рум. 325/2 and Епарх. 460 (the second translation). In the Life of St Procopius of Scythopolis, conflate readings were found in the manuscript of Петр. 165 (the first translation), the common archetype of the manuscript copies of Вв, Fr. 4723, F.I.307, Пог. 818, Син. 752, and F19–81, as well as in the individual manuscript copies of Петр. 89 and Соф. 279 (the second translation).
The Life of St Procopius was the most edited. The compiler of the archetype of the manuscript copies of F.I.307 and Пог. 818 must have additionally used the Old Church Slavonic version of the same hagiography.
The largest number of conflate readings of both types are contained in the manuscript copies of Вв (The Life of Procopius) and Шепт. 31 (The Life of St Athanasius).
